Ert Brings More Love Comedy Into Your Living Rooms With Simon Brodkin Maisie Adam

ERT is bringing more Live Comedy into your living rooms with Simon Brodkin & Maisie Adam, following the success of the first ever Your Place Comedy live streamed show, which saw over 3,500 people tune in to watch an event put together by ten small, independent venues from across Yorkshire and the Humber.

East Riding Theatre is once again collaborating with some of the region’s best loved small theatres and arts centres to provide another evening of top comedy, broadcast live to viewers’ homes, and all for free.

On Sunday 10th May at 8pm, acclaimed character comedian and internationally renowned prankster Simon Brodkin, best known for his alter ego Lee Nelsonand, more recently, as the man who handed Theresa May a P45 during the Conservative Party Conference, joins star of Have I Got News For You, Mock The Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Maisie Adam, for an evening of comedy as each delivers a set from the comfort of their own living room!

The event, which is compered by writer and star of Radio 4’s The Gambler, presenter of CBBC’s Super Human Challenge and Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nominee, Tim FitzHigham, will once again be free to watch on YouTube and Twitch, with an option for viewers to donate if they have enjoyed the broadcast. All money raised will be distributed equally among the 10 supporting venues, including East Riding Theatre each of whom are navigating their way through some challenging financial times.

Your Place Comedy is a venue driven and venue focused initiative which tries to re-establish the traditional relationship between venue, performer and audience that has been temporarily lost during the Covid-19 crisis. The venues participating in the project have all pledged funds to both support the performers involved and to provide their audiences with entertainment from the kind of artists who, in normal times, would have been appearing in their local arts centre or theatre.

Sue Kirkman, manager of East Riding Theatre, said “Initiated by Chris Jones, venue manager of Selby Town Hall, ERT has invested in a collaborative venture to engage the fantastic audiences who are the absolute lifeblood of the ten venues involved in this project.  During the first event, audiences in the North watched and donated in their droves.”

Sue continues, “For venues like ERT that has no major public funding, and at a time when a great number of performers have had their livelihoods taken away overnight, it is brilliant to be able to support artists, audiences and other independent venues in this way.”

Keen for the venture to continue and grow, Sue says “It would be lovely to know that for as long as our doors have to remain closed, we can continue to connect with audiences and bring them big laughs from some of the UK’s best performers through the Your Place Comedy project.”
