COVID-19: New rules on face coverings

Face masks and face coverings will be mandatory in shops and closed environments from July 24 under a new law set by the Government.
Anyone who fails to adhere to the wearing of a face mask or face covering in these environments will face a £100 fine. This will be reduced to £50 if the fine is paid within 14 days.
With the introduction of mandatory face coverings in a bid to further stop the spread of the deadly pandemic, the Government's strategy remains the same: to protect the NHS, get the cases of the virus down and keep the cases down, while restoring as much of normal life as possible. This comes alongside the current tactic of replacing national lockdown with more targeted local action.
See official Government guidance on the groups which are and are not required to wear a mask at www.gov.uk.
