East Riding of Yorkshire Council will receive £1,251,395 extra from the Government to help repair potholes across the area.

The council has welcomed the announcement made by the Department for Transport yesterday (Monday 26 March), which was the second largest award made in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

John Barrett, the council’s portfolio holder for operational services, said: “This extra funding is a very welcome boost for the East Riding’s roads.

“Dealing with potholes is a year-round task for our highways maintenance team, which repairs around 25,000 potholes every year.

“This extra money will enable the team to put a programme of works together to carry out permanent repairs to even more potholes across the 2,000 miles of road network in our area.”

The Department for Transport announced it was giving £100million to local councils to help repair potholes and other storm damage caused by the recent severe winter weather.
