Students and staff from East Riding College have marked a milestone in the construction of its new £14m Beverley campus.
The “steel signing ceremony” saw them pen their names on the structure to make their mark for years to come.

Contractor Houlton is moving ahead rapidly with the construction of the campus, which will welcome its first intake of students in September 2015, shortly before the Flemingate shopping and leisure development is completed.

Principal Derek Branton said: “Our new campus is really starting to take shape now and, for the first time, it’s possible to appreciate the scale of the building and how it relates to the wider Flemingate development.

“There is a sense of anticipation growing among the students and staff of the College and we are looking forward to offering the same excellent education experience from a modern campus in central Beverley that we currently offer in Bridlington.”

Keith Gilson, commercial director of Houlton, said: “Giving students the opportunity to incorporate their signatures within the permanent works adds personality to the building.

“This building will change lives for the better over the coming decades, and this group will always have this occasion as a reference point.”

The new campus will feature 30 teaching rooms with specialist IT and engineering facilities and a large Learning Resource Centre with access to a wide range of digital and printed reference materials.

It will also feature industry standard hairdressing and beauty therapy salons, a restaurant and a travel agency, which will provide realistic training facilities for students and be open to paying members of the public.

One key element will be the Energy Technology Centre, which will provide facilities for small to medium enterprises in the quickly developing renewable energies sector and provide links to training across a range of business, energy and environmental services.
