July will see a rare opportunity in Bridlington to enjoy the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, playing a selection of classical music inspired by the sea.

This unique experience sees Bridlington Spa's Royal Hall opened up to reveal stunning views across Bridlington Bay.  Against the sparkling backdrop of the sea, the orchestra, led by 'Captain' Tim Steiner will take the audience on a voyage of musical adventure and discovery with its fun-filled family concert.

Full of works inspired by the sea and beyond, this concert will be the perfect introduction to classical music, with a programme of well-known melodies and new works to delight and inspire, including the 'Blue Danube Waltz’ by Strauss, the ‘Fantasia on British Sea Songs’ and excerpts from one of the most popular film scores of all time, 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Presented by ‘captain’ Tim Steiner, this is guaranteed to be an afternoon of family fun.

This concert will be part of the ‘Classically Yours’ programme, one of the key Hull 2017 events facilitated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council – a Principal Partner in Hull 2017 – throughout the year.

Tickets are available now priced £17.50 for adults; £15 for concessions; and £5 for children, from Bridlington Spa Box Office on 01262 678258, or online at www.bridspa.com.

Pre-theatre lunch is also available at £11, or £7.50 for children – details are available when buying tickets for the concert.

On the previous day, Saturday 8 July, a ‘music box’ will take place - an open, practical drop-in session for anybody aged eight upwards, no experience necessary to have a go with an instrument.

Community arts officer June Mitchell said : “The Music Box will be a chance to come and create some new music and sounds alongside musicians from the RPO, and world renowned workshop leader Tim Steiner.  Together you will explore the music that the RPO will be playing in the family concert the following day.”

‘Classically Yours’ is an eighteen-month range of orchestral activities in the East Riding, which include some of the best UK orchestras, such as Manchester Camerata, and Sinfonia Viva. They will be performing in Beverley, Bridlington, Pocklington and Withernsea. ‘Classically Yours’ aims to increase the amount of high quality music available in the area and encourage more participation in arts and culture. It has been supported by Arts Council England.
