Beverley Town Cricket and Recreation Club located on Norwood, Beverley – home of football, tennis, bowls and cricket -  have completed the purchase of a John Deere Tractor using £12,500 awarded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums from local housing developments.

The funding was awarded to purchase the new lightweight tractor which will be used for maintenance for the football pitch and cricket pitch, as well as the bowls green and the grass tennis courts.

In addition to the £12,500 Commuted Sums funding, the club also received £12,500 from the Football Foundation and £1,208 contributed from Beverley Town Cricket Club.

The previous tractor was deemed to be too heavy in a pitch survey and the wheels were creating ruts in the surface when the ground conditions aren’t perfect.

Olly Grantham, Treasurer, said:  “The club has been fortunate to receive grants from a number of recent sources including East Riding Commuted Sums in recent years, and now boasts one of the best pitches in the area as a result. The recent grant award has allowed the club to purchase a tractor to maintain the new pitch to the standard it deserves and will keep the pitch in pristine condition for years to come. Hopefully, this is just another step in the club progressing through the football pyramid and is the next step of our facility improvement plan.”

Councillor Mike Stathers, portfolio holder for Place Shaping including Operational Services, added : “I am very pleased that this award of Commuted Sums, which were provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval, has contributed to the purchase of the tractor, which will make a huge difference to the Club.”
