Beverley Grammar School Year 10 Graphic Products pupils have been taking part in a project to work with a local business.  Their brief was to design and model a rebrand and refurbishment of the Kings Head public house in Beverley. The Pub’s Manager, Matt Clapison, visited the boys in class, where he introduced the design brief giving them direction and scope for their work.

This competition brief was a concept introduced by Head of D&T, Dan Bibbington, and was designed to give pupils an understanding of the real world of design and client interaction. Mr Bibbington commented, “In the world of design, the client is king and pupils need to understand that successful design is about designing with a client or user’s desires in mind. Through the completion of this brief, the Graphic Products pupils of Beverley Grammar School will have a greater understanding of this important interaction which will stand them in good stead should they wish to pursue design as a career.”

The final designs were judged by the Grammar School’s Head teacher Gavin Chappell, Mr Clapison and the class teacher Dan Bibbington.  The winner was Joe Anguish in year 10 with Mawgan Wood's work being highly commended for an excellently detailed model of the pub. Both Joe and Mawgan’s work was exhibited at the Kings Head over the Easter Break with Joe also winning a family meal in the Kings Head Restaurant.
