Beverley Community Lift Welcomes Heather A New Addition To Their Fleet To Enhance Mobility Services

Beverley Community Lift (BCL) is proud to announce the acquisition of a new minibus, named “Heather,” as she was specifically built for the charity in Scotland.

With a capacity to accommodate up to two fixed manual wheelchairs or up to six folding walkers/wheelchairs, Heather improves accessibility for passengers and has been tailored to meet the growing demand for mobility-friendly transportation services in the Beverley area. This investment is part of the charity’s dedication to ensuring that individuals who struggle to use other types of transport, have greater access to essential services and can fully participate in community life.

Fiona Wales, General Manager of Beverley Community Lift says:

"When passengers have mobility needs, getting out and about without assistance becomes even harder, leading to increased feelings of isolation and loneliness. Heather’s arrival marks a significant milestone in our mission to alleviate these challenges and create an inclusive community.

“Our service can facilitate trips to the supermarket, provide transport for outings, and can be booked by community groups for their desired destinations. We also offer passenger assistants if required.”

One regular passenger said: "Going out and about with BCL really lifts my spirits. Living on your own can be very lonely, so it’s comforting to know there are friendly people on the minibus just like me. The volunteers and drivers are charming and can be quite amusing!”

In line with BCL's cherished tradition, Heather bears the name of a flower symbolising growth, renewal, and the beauty of diversity. Chosen for its resilience and grace, Heather was constructed in Scotland, embodying the spirit of unity and strength that characterises Beverley Community Lift.

The charity continues to seek dedicated volunteers, particularly volunteer drivers and office workers, to support its vital operations.

Individuals with a passion for making a difference are encouraged to contact the BCL office at 01482 868082, Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 12:00, or email Fiona at manager@bclift.org.uk.

Beverley Community Lift remains committed to building a more inclusive and connected community, one ride at a time. Heather's arrival heralds a new chapter in BCL's legacy of service, promising greater accessibility and support for all members of the Beverley community.
