Beverley Chess Club is hosting a publicity day on 1 August to show people what's involved.

The open day, which will be held at the library between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday 1 August will give attendees the opportunity to meet players and officials of the club.

People will also be able to arrange a visit to the club, and talk to members about joining.

There will be a competition to win a chess themed prize, as well as the challenge of beating the chess computer.

Free chess coaching will be available on the day, as well as access to the library's stock of chess books, which may give prospective players an insight into the game and strategies.

David Mills from the chess club said, "The club has about 25 members and enters teams in the Hull & District Chess Association Leagues. Several members play in Hull & District Chess Association teams which compete in the Yorkshire Chess Association Saturday League. There are also internal club events."
