Beverley Art Gallery has released a new podcast in the series called 'It's in the BAG - a Beverley Art Gallery podcast'.

The first episode in the series was all about Beverley artist Fred Elwell, and the latest edition concerns his wife, Mary Elwell, following the recent online celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Fred’s birth.

Curator Helena Cox said : “Although we have launched our podcasts with our local heroes the Elwells, in the future we will be looking at various other artists from the collection, enjoying artwork from various periods and different styles.

“The podcasts are very short - a couple of minutes -  and the idea is to offer a glimpse of Beverley Art Gallery's collection, one artwork at a time. We know that many people still feel they prefer not to physically visit the gallery, and this is a way of making our collections accessible to a wider audience, even if they cannot physically visit our premises. Also, this enable people from far and  wide to enjoy our art treasures.”

“I am excited that the podcast is giving us another way of connecting to our audiences, and that we will be able to reach even those who are too far from Beverley to pay us a visit. I will be happy to hear from our visitors if they'd like to suggest which artworks from our collections we should focus on in one of the next episodes.”

The podcasts are part of a wider range of online activities that the gallery is actively promoting, such as the weekly 'Caption Challenge' - every Friday the Gallery asks followers on social media to suggest a caption for one of their artworks.

New podcast episodes are released every few weeks and are available on Youtube and at the Active East Riding website : www.ActiveEastRiding.co.uk
