Beverley AC - New Year celebrations and challenges!

Fiona And Gary

Congratulations to the participants of the Couch 2 5kms (C25K) programme who successfully graduated at the beginning of January. Unable to celebrate in the usual fashion with a group run due to the new post-Christmas lockdown, the group are looking forward to continuing their running within the guidance and socially distanced environment in which we find ourselves for the coming weeks. Fiona Oakes and Patrick Marshall, Beverley AC members and organisers of the programme are especially proud of this group as they are the first group to have completed the programme virtually.

The New Year also saw the results of the 5kms Improvement Leagues – Road and Off Road. Members were invited to run a set route over a period of 6 weeks. The road route saw 12 runners complete a total of 22 runs between Beverley and Woodmansey whilst the Off-Road route, a loop including the popular Hudson Way, saw 27 runners complete a total of 117 runs. Andy Johnson, Beverley AC member and co-ordinator of the Leagues said he was looking forward to announcing the winners at the forthcoming virtual Club Awards Night.

Sadly, the latest lockdown rules mean that all group Club activities are cancelled until further notice. However, within the current guidance of being able to exercise with one other person, members are looking forward to taking part in the Running Buddy Challenge, where members run any 5km or 10km route with the same partner over a 6-week period, with a minimum of 4 runs to qualify for the challenge.

As the lockdown continues, many Club members continue to enjoy the virtual (Not) Beverley Westwood Park Run. Special mention must go to Beverley AC member Pam Atkins, who has completed 200 (not) park runs – a total of 1,000 kms or 621 miles since June. Kay Farrow, Beverley AC member and Park Run Race Director said that she was delighted with the number of people who continue to run the 5kms distance and log a (Not) Beverly Westwood park run time each week. Many congratulations also to Kay as she continues her own personal challenge of running every day since October 2020, and who, herself, has completed 150 (not) park runs!

Other upcoming events on the Club’s virtual calendar is the Annual General Meeting, which will be taking place virtually on Wednesday 24th February and the Annual Club Awards Evening on Friday 12th March, when members will virtually celebrate the achievements of 2020.

We all look forward to a time when events can be scheduled but until then, the club continues to support its members through these different challenges. Despite the lockdown, membership of the club continues to go from strength to strength.
