All Things Belgian At Lempicka

Tue 27th September 2016
Lempicka

Lempicka’s continental-style brings a special distinctiveness to this lovely café in Wednesday Market. The ambience is enhanced by the dark furniture and chalky, grey-blue colours along with elegant pictures of and by Tamara de Lempicka herself - the original glamour star - inside the cafe and the tables and chairs outside on the pavement.

Lempicka’s owner, Nancy Blackbourn, lived in Belgium for many years and as her brother is now domiciled there, she is a frequent visitor. She speaks fluent French, one of the official languages of Belgium and loves the Belgian café culture - chocolate, delicious cake, beer, aperitifs, crêpes and waffles.

Lempicka opens at 9am serving breakfast Belgian-style. Stacked crêpes and waffles are served along with artisan espresso-based coffee, hot chocolate and a range of teas.

Nancy has an alcohol license and a personal license and has imported a range of Trappist beers from Belgium. Trappist beers in Belgium are served in their own specific glass so Lempicka serves each beer in the correct glass, too! Beers include Westmaille Triple, Kwak, Kriek and Lambik and range from dry to sweet to suit all tastes. Sitting with a beer or sipping Lempicka’s signature fizz, Kir Royale from an art deco champagne glass is a great way to people-watch or chat with friends. Indulge yourself further with homemade soups, light bites, home-made cakes or waffles - vegan and vegetarian options are available - or Lempicka’s award-winning Continental-style Afternoon Tea, which is a real experience. Every item is made from scratch - so booking is essential. Although Lempicka closes at 5pm, it is available for private bookings in the evening with catering service and alcohol. Just Beverley thinks Lempicka would be a great venue for a Jazz Party!

Nancy has kindly offered Afternoon Tea for 2 to the lucky winner who can answer the following question correctly and is first out of the hat! Send your answer to info@justbeverley.co.uk with your name, address and daytime telephone number by October 18th. Full terms and conditions are on page 3.

The question is:

"There is a famous self-portrait of Tamara de Lempicka with a convertible car. There is a print of the picture hanging in Lempicka café. What is the make of the car?"

Good luck!

Just Beverley
