During this period when people are spending more time at home, East Riding Museums are reminding residents that there are lots of activities online for under 5s and their families.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens Facebook page is posting one activity a week in term time on Mondays, matching the themes of the Sewerby Squirrels. All the activities from 20 April through to 13 July are available on the Sewerby page: https://www.sewerbyhall.co.uk/sewerby-squirrel-challenges/#er-sewerby-squirrels

Themes and activities include Garden Explorers; an Edwardian Tea Party; Amy Johnson themed crafts; Beach Explorers; Edwardian cleaning; garden-themed crafts; and History Explorers.

In addition, Tiny Challenges at Home activities, linked with the nine Tiny Treasures themes, are available at: https://www.eastridingmuseums.co.uk/more-than-history/tiny-challenges/

All based on items in the collections in East Riding Museums, the themes are animals; archaeology; building; cooking; fossils; line and texture; people; seaside; and shape and colour.

Under 5s Learning Co-Ordinator Lucy Cooke said: “It’s particularly pleasing that we are able to offer such a range of fun activities online for our youngest residents during these difficult times, and that we can add new ones regularly as well. Whilst we can’t visit museums and venues at this time, it’s important that we don’t let young children forget their importance – and the fun they can offer, as well.”

All these activities can also be found on the new website, Active East Riding: www.ActiveEastRiding.co.uk

New activities will also soon be available for under 5s to explore themes linked with Goole Museum, Skidby Mill and Beverley Guildhall.
