Acklams on their way to Wem-ber-ley!

Beverley coach firm Acklams Coaches is getting ready to handle the biggest logistical challenge in the company’s 60-year history as it prepares for its own date with Wembley.

The company, one of Yorkshire’s leading independent coach and coach holiday specialists, will be lining up a fleet of 100 or more vehicles to take some of the thousands of Hull City fans to the capital as their team takes on Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final on 13 April.

Acklams looks after all Hull City’s coach requirements and managing director Alan Acklam said: “It’s going to be a fun few weeks. There is a real buzz around the city and our phones have not stopped ringing since the Tigers won their quarter final and secured their Wembley date.

“We are in the process of contacting fellow operators to co-ordinate what will be the biggest fleet in the history of our company, around 100 coaches, possibly more, and we will be bringing them in from as far north as Newcastle, from West Yorkshire and Leicester in the south. The drivers will be provided by the operators”.

It is anticipated that the Acklams-led convoy will carry at least 5,000 fans.

The Barmston Close-based business operates its own fleet of 24 vehicles and employs around 45 staff. Last year, Acklams coaches travelled 850,000 but that total is expected to top 1.1million in 2014.

It is one of the region’s leading coach holiday firms, organising trips to many destinations throughout the UK and some into Continental Europe. They also handle local transport work for corporate, school, amateur sports clubs and private hire.
