Affectionate Boar

It might be Chinese New Year of the Pig, but we couldn't resist this picture of a very friendly Duroc Boar, who just loves being stroked!

The Year of the Pig is the 12th year and final year of the Chinese cycle. Pigs are not considered clever because they like eating and sleeping, but they represent luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, peace, truth, generosity, patience, humour and understanding. According to myth, the animals were assigned to years by the order in which they arrived at the Jade Emperor’s party. The pig was late, because he overslept – or was it because a wolf destroyed his house and he had to rebuild it? Whichever it was, the pig was last, but as you can see by his characteristics, definitely not least.

Are you a pig? Then you share your year with Dame Julie Andrews, Hilary Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emma Thompson, Stephen King, Sir Elton John, John McEnroe, Simon Cowell, Sir Alan Sugar, David Tennant and Bryan Adams. Ronald Reagan, Henry VIII and Alexander the Great were pigs.

Chinese New Year began February 5th, 2019.
