A Feast of Music this Spring at Hull Truck Theatre

Princess And The Hustler Png

This spring, Hull Truck Theatre are celebrating music in all its wonderful forms.

On Thursday 21 March, award winning jazz vocalist and Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal joins her Trio for a brand new show with standards from the grand masters of the Great American Song Book, Cole Porter & Rodgers & Hart to witty and urbane song stylists of the 50’s & 60’s Cy Coleman & Carolyn Leigh & Dave Brubeck, while also drawing inspiration from more contemporary writers and originals.

The following evening, acclaimed singer-songwriter Elio Pace returns to Hull Truck Theatre with a very special, intimate, and completely unique concert honouring his childhood musical idol, Elvis Presley. The concert features many Elvis Presley classics as well as some rarely-heard and forgotten gems. Elio’s sensational singing and electrifying piano-playing is ingeniously accompanied on stage by the dynamic and percussive power of the incomparable drummer, Steve Rushton.

In April, we welcome the legendary Grimethorpe Colliery Band, winner of 16 Brass In Concert Championship titles and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain. With diverse noted concert performances including those at the FIFA World Cup, BAFTA Awards, BBC Proms, Eurovision and London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, the band has also been nominated at the BAFTA awards for its contributions to the global hit movie “Brassed Off” for which Grimethorpe was the focal point.

The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Barbican, Westminster Abbey, European Parliament, Sydney Opera House and more, have all played host to Grimethorpe. With tours to Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and concerts and festival appearances throughout Europe, the band’s performance reputation remains unsurpassed.

We wave goodbye to April and welcome May with Turn & Face The Strange, the sell-out multi-media show about Hull rock legend Mick Ronson. Written by Garry Burnett (one of Just Beverley's Arts Correspondents) and ‘Made in Hull’ writer Rupert Creed, the show will feature a live rock band, a classical string quartet, film projection and storytelling.

The stellar line-up of talent includes rock musicians who played with Mick Ronson and David Bowie, with Keith ‘Ched’ Cheesman (The Rats) John Cambridge (The Rats & The Hype), John Bentley (Squeeze), alongside Kristian Eastwood, Bobby Joyce & Rachael Jarvis. With a string quartet of classically trained young musicians ‘Turn and Face the Strange’ tells the real story of the Man Who Changed the Music World.
