East Riding Youth Dance is recruiting once again

East Riding Youth Dance is once again recruiting for young people to join their exciting community dance programme and audition for the East Riding Youth Dance County Company.

The dance programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people from Year 5 and upwards to engage in 12 weeks of community dance. Participants will work closely with professional dance artists, providing a platform for those with little or no previous background in dance to have a fun, energetic and inspirational experience.

Those involved can expect to try a range of dance styles including contemporary and urban whilst developing their creative technique and dance skills.

As a part of the programme each group will contribute to the creation of an original dance piece to be performed at the biggest Youth Dance Platform in the area and showcase their development over the sessions. This platform is set to take over Bridlington’s signature venue, Bridlington Spa on Sunday 21st January 2018.

Community Arts Officer June Mitchell said : "If you are looking for an enjoyable way to increase fitness and muscle tone; improve coordination, balance and posture; and are excited by the opportunity to learn creatively with specialist dance artists, then look no further.”

The youth dance groups are taking place for 12 weeks from w/c 25 September, in six areas of the East Riding:

Bridlington Spa, Bridlington                                    Mondays

Pocklington Arts Centre, Pocklington                        Mondays

Memorial Hall, Beverley                                          Tuesdays

Community Primary School, Hornsea                       Thursdays

Meridian Centre, Withernsea                                   Fridays

Trinity Church, Goole                                             Saturdays

Dance Artist and Co Project Co-ordinator Dawn Holgate said: “Our dance artists will work closely with the thoughts and ideas you contribute and use that to shape your dance piece. Join ERYD and work as team to boost your skill and increase your confidence … It’s more than just dance!”

East Riding Youth Dance will also audition for talented dancers to join its very successful County Company.  Auditions will take place on Sunday 1 October and will offer participants exceptional opportunities working with some of the country’s top professionals.

The audition workshop will take place at The Arts Garage 2, Tokenspire Business Park, Woodmansey HU17 OTB and sessions will continue there on a fortnightly basis on Sundays 10:15am to 2:15pm. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to create their own dance work, enhance their skills and perform to audiences across the region. There will also be the opportunity to work with world class dance companies and perform with other national and regional youth dance companies.

For more information, to book a place, or receive an application pack for County Company please call 01482 395320 or visit the website on www.eryd.co.uk.
