Bridlington Beach Sports

Bridlington Beach Sports Festival 2017 is this Sunday (23 July)

East Riding Council’s Sport, Play and Arts service will be holding its annual Beach Sports Festival on Sunday 23 July, at Bridlington South Cliff beach (near the Park and Ride) from 11am until 3 pm.

The free festival is in its ninth year, and is part of the council’s Active Coast programme, which aims to enable residents and visitors to Get Active, Be Healthy and Enjoy Life on the stunning East Yorkshire coast.

This year’s festival includes organised junior beach soccer and cricket tournaments. There will also be an opportunity for adults to try walking netball games, and for young people to try boxing on the promenade. In addition, The Yorkshire Series Kings and Queens Beach Volleyball competition will offer some high quality action.

The Clip ‘n Climb climbing wall (for ages four and over, and subject to a £2 charge) will also be located on the promenade near Belvedere Café, along with many other free family activities on the beach, including the Slackline School, pop up tennis, Go Spike Beach Volleyball, petanque (beach boules) , face painting, sumo suits, and much more.

The day will also feature Buskers on the Prom - turning the streets of Bridlington into a live music venue, the Bridlington Busking Trail will bring together the best local buskers for one day only. Starting at the Spa Gardens, it will be chance to follow the trail of music down the South Promenade to the Beach Sports Festival.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said : “The Beach Sports Festival is always a great day out, packed full of fun activities. There’s something for everyone to try, and enjoy!

“So why not come along and take part in this year’s festival? Bring a picnic and celebrate one of the East Riding’s fantastic award winning beaches!”
