Owners of an independent artisan sandwich and coffee shop in Beverley have come up with a tasty way to introduce an evening delivery service of their new range of high-quality burgers.

Tony Moxon, owner of Deli No.1 based at Flemingate, came up with the “Burger Challenge”, a belly-busting burger-eating contest in which teams from local organisations and businesses compete to devour a super-sized burger in the fastest time.

Tony said: “I thought it would be an eye-catching event to launch our range of healthy burgers and new evening delivery service.

“We use the best locally-sourced steak meat and brioche buns from the Speciality Bread Company so there is a real theme of high-quality burgers - not your typical takeaway burgers. We are aiming to achieve restaurant quality food to eat in the comfort of your own home.”

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 23, at 7pm at Deli No.1, Flemingate.

Those fearless enough to accept the challenge must consume a towering Deli Burger consisting of two British beef steak burgers; two spicy-rub chicken fillets; four layers of cheese; and topped with barbecue pulled-pork, red onion, pickle, lettuce, slaw, and Deli No.1 signature burger sauce. If that doesn’t have shirt buttons popping, competitors must also polish off a side order of fries and a thick and creamy 16oz milkshake!

Graham Tait, Flemingate Centre Manager, said: “It’s certainly a unique way for Deli No.1 to introduce its range of burgers and new evening collection and delivery service. It sounds like the contest will be great fun for all those taking part.”

Tony added: “We aim to bring something a little different with flavours from around the world such as our Korean burger with Kimchi, which is probably something that people have not tasted before.

“We also have a great vegetarian selection, with Falafel and Beetroot burgers handmade each day - nothing like the processed veggie burgers which are the norm. And our chicken burgers are 100% chicken breast – again nothing is processed here, we just add our special seasoning.

“All our burgers are freshly made on-site using the finest ingredients. We’re all about top quality flavours with a mix of healthy eating - almost a healthy takeaway style.”

Delivery times for the exciting new menu are 4pm to 9pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and 4pm to 10pm on Wednesday to Saturday.

Deli No.1 can be found between leading outdoor clothing specialists Trespass and family-owned toy store The Entertainer at Beverley’s Flemingate centre.
